Mixing live music, turntables and guest MCs, Resin Dogs produce a mash up of sounds; modern hip hop is drenched with breakbeat, dance hall, dub and funk. Already active players in the music scene DJ Katch, Geoff Jigzaw Boardman, Dave Atkins and Chris Bosley teamed up in 1996. From the Volcanic Lab hit the airwaves across Australia in 1998 with the track Say Yeah, later making its way up the Australian Independent Records (AIR) charts. It was a big feat for the Brisbane battlers who were releasing tracks through their home grown label Hydrofunk Records. Quickly attracting major label attention the band signed a dual deal with Hydrofunk Records and Virgin/EMI in 2000. Their debut album Grand Theft Audio was co-produced by Robert Reed of Trouble Funk and released later that year. After the success of Grand Theft Audio and the Live Like Dogs mini album, they were once again keen to get their music to the people and hit the studio to record a second album. Two singles were dropped during this time Set It Off featuring underground legend Abstract Rude from the USA, and Take Off with Sydneys Good Buddha. Their second album Hi Fidelity Dirt was released in 2003 and saw Resin Dogs build on collaborative efforts of the past couple years with guesting MCs including LAs The Pharcyde (Shut Yo Mouth) and UKs Spikey Tee (Adore You). Critical acclaim for Resin Dogs culminated when they scooped the Australian Dance Music Awards in three consecutive years - Best Hip Hop Act in 2001 and Best Live Act in 2002 and 2003. Perennial festival favourites they have performed at all major Australian music events - Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Byron Bay Blues & Roots, Meredith Music Festival, Livid, Homebake, Woodford Folk Festival, Vibes on a Summers Day and have proudly hit the stage at Big Day Out for seven years. Amid the Aussie festivals and tours Resin Dogs have toured nationally with international artists Black Eyed Peas, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Ozomatli, Kenny Dope and Grandmaster Flash. In 2004 and 05 the Resin Dogs took their sounds overseas with sell-out shows at some of the UKs hottest clubs, showcases in the United States and performances at top European music festivals Womad, Reading UK and Sziget, Hungary. The band are also sought after collaborators, recent collaborations include The Nextmen, Abstract Rude, Mystro, Renee Geyer, Robert Reed (Trouble Funk), The Pharcyde, Jungle Brothers, Mad Doctor X, Kenny Dope, Spikey Tee, DJ Ransom, Ben Ely (Regurgitator), Good Buddha and Lazy Grey. Fiercely true to their independent roots Hydrofunk Records is once again home to the Resin Dogs and the established base for their many side projects. In a rarity for Australian hip hop Resin Dogs release their music in Britain, through Jalapeno Records, and also hold various licensing arrangements around the world allowing them to record and release music created especially for the region. Definition is the first single from the new album, which is due out late-2006. Resin Dogs collaborate with ARIA award winning MC Hau (Koolism) Mystro (Lowlife Records, UK) and Abstract Rude (ATU, LA)on the single. With the assistance of UK hip hop heavyweight Brad Baloo of The Nextmen, who is also co-producing their album, Resin Dogs third album will mark the bands evolution over the past ten years.
