Boss Volenti are a hard hitting, hip shaking, no nonsense rock 'n' roll band from Dublin. Their heroes range from such
artists as Thin Lizzy and Al Green to Led Zeppelin and Hall & Oates. Rob Daly and Dan O'Connor first met while
playing in bands around Dublin. Then followed Laura Mackey, who Dan met while both were studying guitar at college.
Drummer Graham Hopkins got wind of the Boss Volenti sound and when he joined, all the pieces of the puzzle slotted
into place.
Volenti cut their live teeth at the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival, September 2005 in Dublin to rave reviews. On
the strength of this, they were invited to play at the In The City Festival in Manchester the following October. Since
then, Boss Volenti have toured Ireland numerous times both as headliners and playing support to such bands as The
Frames, The Chalets and Republic of Loose.
In February 2006, Boss Volenti independently released their first single 'Deeper Than Deep' and it went straight into the
Irish top 40. They then released their second single 'Ain't No Use' in June to even greater success. It received heavy
daytime airplay, was playlisted by 2FM, championed by Tony Fenton on Today FM and regularly played on BBC NI
Radio. Both singles are still playlisted on Dublin's Phantom FM.
The band have an enviable reputation for their live performances and are fast becoming one of the most exciting and
talked about acts around, as their performances at both the Electric Picnic and the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival
proved this year.
In September 2006, Boss Volenti released their eponymous debut album and celebrated this with a spate of successful
shows all around the country. Full of catchy riffs and stomping grooves, the album received glowing reviews from all
corners of the press.
Boss Volenti were nominated for a Meteor Award (the Irish equivalent of The Brits) for 2007 in the Best New Irish Act
category. The band also released their third single, ‘The Gun’, from the debut album on Fri 3rd February.
Thank You.
ALBUM REVIEWS
“This debut from Dubliners Boss Volenti is so damn authentic that it should have the words 'classic rock' scratched into
it's very grooves…belongs somewhere between a battered copy of ZZ Top's Fandango and Queens Of The Stone
Age's Songs For The Deaf.”
3 stars, RTE Guide, 9 - 15th September 2006
“At full tilt, this four-piece crank out an awesome groove…a straight-edged hard rock record delivered with wit and
brio.”
4 stars, Metro Newspaper, 8th September 2006
“On tracks like Opposite Directions and The Gun, Boss Volenti amply demonstrate that they have what it takes to
succeed in FM-land. This isn't just radio friendly. This is radio intimate. Actually, at times it's practically shagging the
radio.”
7/10, Hot Press, vol 30, no 18, September 2006
