Joe Rooney is one of Ireland best known and loved comedy legends. From The Quacksquad to the Hairy Bowsies, from Further Ted to Father Ted, from Fergus Scully to Killinascully Joe is a multi talented and fearless performer who has taken to the stage and screen under a myriad of guises over the years. He is probably at his hilarious best when standing on a stage with a mic and a three to five string guitar.
Joe has recently appeared in the hit RTE comedy series, “Killinaskullyâ€, as the character “Timmy Higginsâ€. Joe is probably best known for his role in “Father Ted†as Father Damo, the one who led Father Dougal astray.
Live or on TV, Joe has proven to be a talented and dynamic performer. His 1999 Edinburgh Fringe debut, “Further Tedâ€, was a huge success with an almost total sell-out season and rave reviews. Joe has since performed all over Ireland, the UK and Europe. His character “Fergus Scully†on TG4’s Ri Ra has been garnering great reviews of late. He has written for RTE Radio’s “Stand Up Sketches†and is currently working on a romantic comedy musical set during the famine. He is also recognised as one of Ireland’s top improvisers working regularly with Dublin’s Comedy Improv team and performed
with them in their recent RTE radio show.
