The Wombats were formed in 2003 when Liverpool natives Matthew “Murph” Murphy ( vocals, guitar, keyboard ) and Dan Haggis ( drums, vocals ) met assimilated Viking Tord Øverland Knudsen ( bass, vocals ) at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Following a host of rapturously received live shows and three limited edition sell out singles on indie label KIDS, the band found themselves in the middle of a bidding war which resulted in their signing to 14th Floor Records.

In November, The Wombats released their debut album; The Wombats present...A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation. The album has been described as a collection of thirteen irresistibly catchy songs, all shot through with infectious scouse wit.

The band’s success to date has been anchored by a hectic touring schedule which has taken the trio to Japan, China, the U.S., Germany, France and Malawi. They made history last year when they became the first unsigned band ever to sell out the 1200 capacity Liverpool Academy.
